Haiku News - Earth Day Ginko

Lets go for a Ginko!

Member, Laurene Post of Florida is inviting Floridian haiku enthusiasts for a get-together and ginko in April. WHC encourages regional haiku events - members are invited  organizing ginko around the world for Earth Day.

UPDATE, April 10, 2002:

The haijin of Florida, USA -  Chris Baltzley, Debi Bender, Laurene Post, Kathi Rudawski, Lynne Steel, and John Wisdom, would like to invite haijin all over the world to join in our Earth Day ginko on April 20th and 21st.  Our group of six haijin from around the state of Florida, will be meeting (most for the first time!) in North Orlando for a ginko to Wekiva Springs, a beautiful Central Florida wetland and natural spring system.

We've chosen Earth Day because it is a day to focus awareness on the environment, and especially, for teaching children to value our planet and it's shrinking wilderness and resources.  It was started in America by Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1969, when he announced that April 22, 1970 would be the first Earth Day to be celebrated in America. Canada also celebrates Earth Day   on that date.

...and two more from member, Judith Gorgone's "Global Creative Group" websites:

If you are planning to be in the Orlando area on April 20th and/or 21st, and would like to join us, please email Laurene Post at laur@facevalue.com . Rooms are still available at the group's hotel, email Laurene for rates.

WHC Regional and Education Director, Paul Conneally will be posting guidelines for the WHC Worldwide Earth Day Ginko at a later date.  Please join us, wherever you are! Take an Earth Day haiku walk and share in our ginko!

In celebration of Earth Day, we are arranging a gathering of haijin from all over the state of Florida. Orlando has been chosen for the planned ginko, not only for it's "centralness", but also for the wonderful array of outdoor venues from which to select our ginko site.  We would dearly love it if you could mark the following dates on your calendar and make plans to attend!

Dates: Saturday, April 20th and Sunday, April 21st, 2002

Where: Orlando, Florida: Weikiva Springs

Lodging: e-mail Laurene Post for information: laur@facevalue.com

The plan, so far, is to meet in the early afternoon at our chosen motel/hotel for an informal meeting/sharing session while waiting for all to arrive. Dinner will be a group event, and we can begin more formal discussions of haiku, and of forming a Florida Poetry Association.  After dinner, we can continue our discussion, followed by a renku or a kukai if we are so inclined.

Sunday morning, we can breakfast together or separately if so desired, and then we will gather for our ginko. We should all plan on going our separate ways from the ginko site, so those who live the furthest away can get on the road as early as they need to.

If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions, please let me know. Family and friends are also welcome, bring the kids! An early RSVP is appreciated!

I'm looking forward to meeting you, so please plan to attend!

Sincerely,
Laurene Post
Florida, US
