1st Place - John Bird

wind shapes
frozen in trees
the way home

An unusual image; the shape of the wind is frozen -- this seemed to complement the picture and stands well on its own. [SM]

2nd Place - Owen Burkhart

west wind
barren branches sweep away
the stars

This came close to winning. I like the image of the branches sweeping, not just the sky, but the stars as well. Good use of alliteration in barren branches and sweep/stars. [SM]

3rd Place - Hortensia Anderson

west wind -
the bare trees still bend
after it passes

Again, good use of alliteration and assonance. The haiku flows well when read aloud. [SM]
