1st Place - Juanito Escareal

under the bridge,
voices of children rising
in the mist

This was one of the few that related strongly to the picture. It appeals to two senses -- always good in a haiku if you can appeal to more than one sense. It is well structured with a setting and action. [SM]

2nd Place - Paul Conneally

ebb tide
grandad's summer trousers
above his knees

Here's one that did not relate to the picture but was inspired by it. I like the connection between ebbing tide and the elderly grandpa. It paints a clear picture of a time gone by in line with the era of the picture. [SM]

3rd Place - Maria Steyn

incoming fog . . .
a sea monster tickles
small toes

This got my vote as it is humorous. I remember, as a child, having my toes tickled by unknown things underwater; the imagination creates all manner of options. [SM]
