 WHChaibun - D.W. Bender

Wind
Debra Woolard Bender
Florida, US

I saw them together. Heaving, sighing fields. The earth, the air, partnered by unbidden forces.

........the thin twig...gray bearded moss
built into a circular...nest

Playground surrounded by a chain-link fence. See-saw squawking, gravel-crunching, swing-squeaking, discordant shouts. Boys on the monkey-bars. Girls jumping rope.

fledglings...having entered the sky
now gone...plumbago opens

Rustle of live oak, gold with old leaves, new catkins. Neighborhood streets lined with pollen. Back to the same roof, year after year, same pair of sparrows.

pindo palm...starting to fruit
.....clouds...heavy with unfallen rain

*bearded moss/Spanish moss - an air plant
*plumbago/skyflower - a vining bush with small blue flowers
*live oaks -an oak species in Florida
