TANKA...........
Michael
McClintock, US
like a bee who needs
the scent of honey—
you've been gone
and I've been crawling
into your bed, for my naps
summer days
long and hot like this one
I live outside
a friend of green shadows
and the sycamore tree
the day I chose
to make my own decisions
I stayed up all night
reading the Tarot cards
forbidden by my father
cool shadows
of lengthening blue
fold over the pond . . .
there my love bathes
in blue-shadow arms
squelching in mud
under trees on the mountain
we hunt mushrooms
abandoning our dispute
to that single purpose
