A STUDY OF TRUE SENRYU.(PART I): UGACHI (2)
[1] My senryu works
Let me use actual senryu works (mine and yours) and some other things to show
UGACHI at work. They are presented here primarily for the purpose of
explaining UGACHI. Therefore, whether they are good senryu or bad is
immaterial, though one would of course have hoped they ARE! As in the
case of haiku, good senryu are few and far between but once you know what
UGACHI is then you would be able to start trying to write good ones with
UGACHI. Let me stick my neck out first:
see how victims
turn to perpetrators...
atrocities
victims
of bullying turn
bullies
abused children yesterday,
children's abusers today
bombed children turn
suicide bombers
the more you bomb
the more suicide bombers
you generate
Hydra...
it isn't Greek mythology
after all
things become suddenly
dear to you, when they are
taken away from you
you suddenly want
to keep it, only when someone
wants it
all assumptions
are wrong, yes all, including
this assumption
when you want to
demonstrate filial piety, your mother
has long been dead
you love your wife
more deelply when
she's dead and gone
you know how much
it hurts, only when you are
beaten up yourself
one man's senryu
is another man's
poison
one man's humour
is another man's
anger
if it's not haiku
nor senryu, then it is
not anything
comparing senryu
with haiku and getting
nowhere
the differences between man and woman,
the differences between haiku and senryu;
the former worth pursuing, the latter not
making up her face
she's failed to hide
her heart
old age pension...
the time to prepare oneself
for the final exit
understanding parents
only when they've gone
understanding parents only
by becoming a parent oneself
one can cope with
the loss of parents better only
when one becomes a parent
most of the time
we are talking cross-purposes…
including to ourselves
most of our communications:
either miscommunications
or discommunications
wars in this world
start with sibling rivalry
siblings...
the point of departure
to "other people"
(from an old Japanese proverb)
birth and rebirth
perpetuate the cycle of violence
and hatred
no wonder,
Zen teaches
nothingness!
life: a creator of inequality
death: a great leveller
all of us have Buddha in us,
we are told after birth; all of us become Buddha,
we are told before death
children’s first names…
crystallise parents’ wishful thinking
and unfulfilled dreams
even murderers
have lovely first names —
Jack, Osama, Al...
ugachi...
inexplicable, then
don't explain
ugachi lies
where logic cannot
reach
one knows
ugachi when one
sees one
