WORLD KIGO and ESSAY SUBMISSIONS


1. WHO CAN SUBMIT: Submissions are open world-wide to readers of the World Haiku Review online

2. WHAT IS WORLD KIGO: Kigo are season words and/or phrases which are integral to traditional haiku, as composed in Japan. Flora, fauna, weather, celestial and human events, food and other topics related to regional seasons world-wide are compiled in a database for study and use at WHCworldkigo.

3. Please submit up to 3 seasonal topics (in words/phrases) for your region or country, with a short paragraph of explanation or background about its appearance, use, history, etc. ( Also send your original photos or other images—or send links to internet pages, if possible, which illustrate the kigo.)

4. ESSAYS, ARTICLES and NEWS: Limit 1 new, original essay per author and per issue on topics concerning kigo. There is not a limit on essay length at this time. For essay submissions, include your brief biography, footnotes, and an introduction to yourself and your work as related to poetry. Articles and news of interest to Italian-language poets of haiku and related poetry may also be submitted. Single space main body of manuscript texts except where other formatting is necessary. Send manuscripts separately. (BOOK REVIEWS & PUBLICATION NEWS MUST BE SENT SEPARATELY TO SUSUMU TAKIGUCHI)

5. Works in non-English languages must be accompanied by good English translation, which will be used for selection purposes.

6. Single-space kigo submissions, except where special formatting is necessary.

7. Include your name (and nom de plume, if applicable); Surname in capital letters (EX: John BUNYON; Sara Elizabeth JAMES; SUZUKI Tatsuo, Susumu TAKIGUCHI; Indicate title such as Ms, Mrs., Mr. if needed or desired.

Include your state or province, and country of residence (if more than one, please include all).

Include your e-kmail address.

8. Please use HTML formatted e-mail (not "Plain Text" or MS Word format). Please type your text, poems and manuscripts directly onto the body of the e-mail; do not copy and paste your text into the e-mail from a word-processing document.

9. Send submissions in the main body of the e-mail, not as an attached file. (Exception: .jpg/.jpeg photos and other images for kigo or essays may be sent as attachments).

10. SUBJECT FIELD OF EMAIL for WHCKIGO: "WHCworldkigo Submissions for World Haiku Review"
